How to verify a Florida electrician license on MyFloridaLicense.com
Florida electrical contractor licenses are issued through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). To check a license:
- Go to MyFloridaLicense.com and choose Verify a License.
- Search by license number (for example, Xlectrical’s is EC13014052) or by the contractor’s name.
- Open the result and confirm the name matches the company or person you’re hiring.
- Check that the license status is current and active, and note the license type.
- Ask for a certificate of insurance and make sure the policy is current.

What do "EC" and "ER" mean?
Florida electrical contractor licenses usually start with a prefix. EC identifies a state-certified electrical contractor, which allows the contractor to work anywhere in Florida. ER identifies a registered contractor, whose work is tied to the local jurisdictions where they hold competency. Both are legitimate — the key is that the license is active and matches the business.
Questions to ask before you hire
- Are you licensed and insured? Get the license number and verify it yourself.
