What affects the cost
- Distance from the panel: the base range assumes the charger is within about 5 feet of the panel. Longer runs need more wire and conduit.
- Panel capacity: if a load calculation shows your panel can’t support the charger, load management or a panel upgrade may be needed.
- Charger amperage: higher-power chargers need larger circuits and conductors.
- Indoor vs. outdoor: outdoor installs need weather-rated equipment — especially near the coast.
- Permits and HOA requirements: a new 240V circuit typically needs a permit; condos and HOAs may require documentation.
